Welcome to Tea on the Ledger, your go-to blog for modern business finance advice with a side of sarcasm and spreadsheets.
Run by a former Big4 accountant (yes, I survived!), this blog is here to make business way less boring and way more doable. Whether you’re freelancing, consulting, side hustling, or running a full-blown small business - this space is packed with practical tips, bookkeeping hacks, tax talk, and cash flow tricks to help you DIY your business finances like a pro.
I’m all about modernizing money management so ditch the dusty old accounting rules and get the inside scoop on how to actually run your business finances smarter, not harder. From decoding your P&L to avoiding tax-time panic, I’m spilling all the tea (with spreadsheets, not judgement).
Because your business deserves financial clarity……and you deserve content that doesn’t put you to sleep.
Behind Tea on the Ledger
With more than a decade of experience in finance and accounting, Riyanna has worked across industries including hospitality, education, manufacturing, public sector, automotive, luxury dining, and global hotels. Her unique career path has seen her work with entrepreneurs starting from zero to leading large finance & accounting teams in multi-national businesses.
She began her professional journey at KPMG, where she saw how much high-quality financial advice large corporations could access…and how little of that reached small businesses. This inspired her to create Tea on the Ledger: a place where side hustlers, freelancers, and small business owners can access free, expert-level finance guidance without the corporate price tag.
Today, as an Accounting Manager for a large U.S. hospitality group with more than a dozen sites nationwide, she helps to oversee centralized accounting operations, cross-location financial processes, and ensures accurate, timely reporting. At the same time, she works directly with small business owners through My Finance Dept, her fractional CFO service, to implement financial strategies, create budgets, improve cash flow, and prepare for sustainable growth.
Through Tea on the Ledger, Riyanna blends her Big Four foundation, MBA training, CGMA credentials, and real-world experience to deliver clear, actionable advice on bookkeeping, tax compliance, cash flow management, and financial planning. Her mission is simple: to help business owners understand their finances so they can spend more time doing the work that inspired them to start their business in the first place.
